AUTOCROSS 21ST JUNE 2009 BOURNEMOUTH
Several local crews set off for sunny Bournemouth around 5am on 21st of June, and boy was it going to be a hot and dusty one!
WAC Juniors Ross Westgarth, Richard Taylor (this to be his second event after Braintree) and debut event for Will Barnard
....others WAC's competing- me, Roger Kenningdale, Colin Smith, Robin Wilkinson plus plus Richard Warne and Geoff Foot (Green Belt)
think everyone had a nice day- even though Robin suffered misfire prob with the Focus and misfortune of forgetting to put pins in his bonnet on last run- oops!
Rover driver Colin Smith also sustained damage..........to a chair he had brought with him that just could not take the load...mm already cracked not so sure???
Richard Warne's (GB) Escort taking first in class,
I think the Juniors took the honours- Ross Westgarth- 2nd in class, closely perused by Will Barnard 3rd in class and Rich Taylor taking up the 5th slot,
Well Done to you all! John Taylor
A Wet weekend in Braintree.
A big thanks for everyone involved with the Braintree auto-x. It was truly a great weekends motor sport and staying over was a good laugh. Teresa and Hayley tried to keep up with the northern lads to no avail being drunk well and truly under the table with Teresa nearly missing Sunday. Ross had a great day Sat and Sunday with only a few teething problems on Saturday, fuel starvation and gear selection, but thanks to other competitors a lot was learn by both of us. It was the first time out for our new car which was found in a barn in Wickford with only 50,000 miles and one owner from new.
Ross rebuilt the engine from the 1300 SR, with new rings big ends, mains, and oil pump. He has registered for the British junior championship and at 15 years old has to finance all this himself, entry, car, any repairs with us paying for fuel and transport. He has a very limited budget and is over the moon with help he has received from W.A.C with their discounted entry idea with registration at the beginning of the year. Sunday was a great day for all the under powered cars it seemed the more power you had the slower you went until it all started to dry out and turned it all round.
Sorry we could not stay to the end for the awards but we should have been at a party by 4pm. But thanks again.
